Multi-Year Gift of Opportunity Announced

NEW YORK LIFE BELIEVES IN THE CATALOG FOR GIVING

Dear Friend,

In the ten years since the New York Life Foundation began focusing its resources on young people, it has donated millions of dollars to programs that serve our most important asset - our kids. And nowhere are kids more important to us than in the city where we make our home. So I'm pleased to announce that the Foundation has recently chosen the Catalog for Giving for a gift of $300,000 to support the ten hardworking New York City organizations represented here.

Why the Catalog for Giving? Because its work is vital - and unique. The Catalog identifies and funds organizations that have found innovative ways to help kids, at a critical time in their development. By helping these organizations grow to self-sufficiency, the Catalog creates an ever-widening circle of support for disadvantaged kids in our city. At New York Life, we believe that when you touch a child's life, you transform your own. Inside these pages, you'll find many inventive ways to change kids' lives. I invite you to read on - and to join us in supporting the member organizations of the Catalog for Giving.

600 Attend Annual Urban Heroes Event

Nearly 600 guests turned out for the Catalog's 13th Annual Urban Heroes Awards Benefit on October 21 at Chelsea Piers, and almost $600,000 was raised for the member organizations the Catalog supports. Bill Ritter served as emcee for the fifth year and introduced the ten young Urban Heroes who once again movingly related their stories of triumph.

Ritter shared the spotlight with other celebrities including Simon Doonan of Barneys and VH1 fame and Figure Skating Champion, JoJo Starbuck. Corporate honors were bestowed on Kenneth Horn, real estate developer and president of Alchemy Properties for his innovation in business and service to youth. The Catalog's 2008 'Urban Star' Award was presented to Congressman Gregory Meeks, who presides over the 6th District in Queens. This award is presented each year to an individual who has benefited from one of its alumni organizations and subsequently goes on to achieve greatness. The Congressman, who was a participant in the East Harlem Tutorial Program, was recognized as a true role model for today's youth.
